S1/2/S3 Pupils study courses on: Deciding; Contrasting; Organising and Presenting Information.

In the Deciding module pupils study History, and more specifically, The Home Front, and what it would have been like to be a child in Scotland during World War 2.

The Contrastingunit focuses on the Geography of Natural Hazards, i.e. Plate tectonics, Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Tsunamis.

The Organising and Presenting Information aspect is built into both previous courses, as pupils carry out mini topic investigations and present them to the group.

Senior Phase There are available courses named The Road to War; Wallace and Bruce; Free at last – Race Relations in the USA.

The Road to War starts at the end of World War 1 and pupils study the rise of Hitler and the reaction to this from within Germany and also from the Allies perspective.

Wallace and Bruce begins with the death of King Alexander III and the succession crisis and ends with Robert the Bruce and the Battle of Bannockburn.

Free at last – Race Relations in the USA examines the civil rights movement in the USA starting with immigration to the USA and finishing with the Black Power and the Nation of Islam

Courses are taught to engage different learning styles and strengths. The course content and, importantly, the skills taught therein (such as critical thinking, debate, social awareness, collaborative learning), are bridged to other curricular areas such as English, Art and Drama. Through this, the History curriculum aims to emphasise its relevance to pupils’ own lives and contexts.
